KUALA LUMPUR: Cabinet members have been instructed to examine the issues highlighted in the Auditor-General’s report, says Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.

The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) stated that the government recognised the need for effective measures to address the leakages identified in the report, as they involve public finances.

“The government takes the matters raised in the audit report very seriously.

"The Prime Minister has instructed the relevant ministers to review the issues highlighted, including leakages, non-compliance, and weaknesses in planning, and to implement corrective measures,” she said while tabling the motion to debate the Auditor-General’s Report Series 1/2026 in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (Feb 24).

She added that the Auditor-General’s reprimand should serve as a lesson to ensure that similar issues do not recur.

She said the report, which was put for debate in the Dewan Rakyat, reflected the government’s commitment towards transparency and accountability.

Projects delayed for years, leading to huge losses, grants that were unused but not returned, and fungus-infested buildings were among 273 new governance and financial management issues affecting federal and state agencies that were identified in the report.

The report spans 15 volumes and covers the 2024 Federal Agencies’ Financial Statements, activities of federal ministries, departments and statutory bodies, as well as state ministries, departments, agencies and state-owned company management.
