Over 50 schools affected by Sabah floods


Kota Kinabalu: A total of 54 schools, including two secondary schools, have been affected by flooding in Pitas, Paitan in the Beluran district, and Sipitang, according to the Sabah Education Department.

Its director Datuk Raisin Saidin said 5,730 students and 629 teachers were impacted, with Beluran bearing the brunt of the floods.

He said 16 primary schools in Beluran were affected, involving 2,575 pupils and 306 teachers. In Pitas, six schools were hit, affecting 2,029 students and 216 teachers, while another six schools in the same area were cut off after access roads were inundated.

Raisin added that one school in Sipitang, involving 58 students and 10 teachers, was also affected.

He said proactive measures are being taken to assist the impacted schools, adding that replacement classes will be conducted once conditions improve.
