Claims of Bersatu dissolving four divisions not true, baseless, unconstitutional, says Azmin

PETALING JAYA: Bersatu has denied claims that four of its divisions were dissolved following the resignation of several committee members.

Its secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said the claims were baseless, unconstitutional and against the party’s constitution.

“We received reports which claimed that the Larut, Lembah Pantai, Kepala Batas and Tanjong divisions have been dissolved following the resignation of several division committee members.

“These claims are baseless, unconstitutional and contradict several provisions within Bersatu’s Constitution and Regulations.

“The party constitution does not grant power to any party member, including division chiefs, to dissolve a division,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Feb 18).

He added that the party’s supreme council will take further action based on the provisions of the existing constitution.

Mohamed Azmin described the claims as a desperate act by certain ill-intentioned individuals to tarnish the party’s image and dignity while also undermining its stability.

He said that during the Bersatu supreme council meeting on Saturday (Feb 14), the party had decided to take proactive steps by mandating its state leaders to monitor each division.

It was earlier reported that more divisions and associate wings had announced plans to dissolve following the expulsion of deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

Last Friday (Feb 13), Bersatu sacked 17 members, including several supreme council members, comprising several MPs and state assemblymen, including Opposition Leader Hamzah.
