JOHOR BARU: Participants in the protest against Tan Sri Azam Baki, including former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, have the right to do so, says PKR information chief Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
He said the party had yet to receive any complaints against Rafizi following the latter’s involvement in the demonstration on Sunday (Feb 15).
“We have yet to discuss it, so I feel it is too early for me to say anything,” he said.
“We will leave it to the party if there are any complaints.
“So far, the party’s secretary-general has not informed us of any complaints, but those who gathered have the right to do so, and there is no issue from a legal standpoint.
“He (Rafizi) has the right to do what he wants as, under the Federal Constitution, Malaysians have the right to assemble,” he added.
He said this at a press conference after launching the Jelajah Ramadan 2026 (14th edition) at Pasar Tani Kekal Datin Halimah in Larkin on Monday (Feb 16).
He responded to a question about whether PKR would take action against Rafizi for his involvement in the protest.
Fahmi, who is also the Communications Minister, pointed out that no agency or person is perfect.
“At the same time, we cannot deny that enforcement agencies have taken very firm action against corrupt individuals and cartel groups,” he said.
“We need to give credit where it is due.
“There is no such thing as a perfect institution — I am not perfect, the Prime Minister is not perfect, Rafizi Ramli is not perfect, and Azam Baki is not perfect,” he said.
It was previously reported that several MPs, including Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, Wong Chen and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, were also present at the demonstration.
In his speech, Rafizi urged coalition partners to take a clear stand on the issue, saying it could sway public opinion.
He also said they would take to the streets again if an independent and transparent investigation into the issue was not conducted.
On Saturday (Feb 14), Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar said a special committee led by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar had commenced a probe into the issue.
