KUALA SELANGOR: The Kuala Lumpur–Kuala Selangor Expressway (LATAR) has acknowledged receiving several reports of counterfeit money being used at its top-up counters, but stresses that these incidents are isolated and not a cause for concern.
Its Chief Operating Officer, Ahmad Fuad Ahmad Shahimi, said such cases were rare, under control, and had not had any significant impact on the highway’s daily operations, reported Sinar Harian.
“We have received cases of counterfeit money, but they are rare and do not pose a major issue for LATAR,” he said.
“There have been reports, but the number of cases is very low, and none have occurred for quite some time,” he added when met during the launch of the 2026 Road Safety Campaign at the Ijok Toll Plaza here on Monday (Feb 16).
Ahmad Fuad said that, as a preventive measure, management has installed counterfeit-detection machines at all top-up lanes.
He explained that the installation of these machines was to ensure that every value-added transaction could be thoroughly checked before being accepted.
According to him, this measure is part of the standard operating procedure implemented to prevent any elements of fraud.
“At the counter top-up lanes, there are counterfeit money detection machines. If a banknote is found to be not genuine, we will reject it and not accept it,” he stressed.
