KUALA LUMPUR: More than 4,000 police personnel will be deployed for crime prevention patrols during the Lunar New Year festive period, says Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri (pic).
The Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK) director said this would involve 1,630 MPV units with a manpower strength of 4,332 personnel on duty across all contingents nationwide.
There will be 1,732 motorcycle patrol units with 1,800 personnel deployed throughout the country.
“Police personnel will patrol various areas, especially residential areas, as part of our crime prevention rounds.”
“Such efforts are aimed at reducing crime and ensuring the safety of residential areas from housebreaking cases,” he said when contacted.
He said that the patrols will be carried out 24 hours a day based on a shift schedule.
“I would like to urge the public to inform the police when they leave their homes during this festive period by calling the 999 hotline, which connects to the Contingent Control Centre and the District Control Centre.
“Alternatively, they may download the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) application on their smartphones to fill in the ‘Balik Kampung’ form and notify the nearest police station so that appropriate action can be taken by the police at the district or contingent level.”
He also reminded the public to contact the police if they spot anything suspicious in their neighbourhood.
“Members of the public are the eyes and ears of the police. We need public cooperation as it is vital in curbing and preventing crimes from occurring,” he said.
Comm Mohd Yusri advised road users to abide by all traffic regulations and avoid speeding.
“Those planning to return to their hometowns or other destinations should plan their journey as well as make sure their vehicles are in good condition.
“Be mindful of others on the road. Drivers must make sure they have proper rest before beginning their journey so they can stay alert.”
