IPOH: A further RM20mil has been announced for secondary Chinese national-type schools (SMJKC).

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the allocation would be in addition to the RM80mil he announced in January for the maintenance and repair of schools.

"In conjunction with Chinese New Year, I want to take this opportunity to announce that all Chinese schools will get more allocation.

"Whether it is for basic amenities or other things, we will add RM20mil for our Chinese community," he said in his speech during the Tambun Madani Chinese New Year and Ramadan aid presentation ceremony at SMJK Yuk Choy here on Saturday (Feb 14).

Anwar had last month announced RM80mil, an increase from RM50mil in 2025 as a "timely relief" for infrastructure needs.

Earlier in his speech, Anwar said everyone, especially children, needs to have respect for one another.

"I've seen some people look down on cleaners. These are arrogant people.

"We need to learn to respect the cleaners who clean our toilets. This is about having good values," he said, adding that parents also, should also be respected.

"Children need to learn to respect all, even if (someone's) uniform is worn and torn, a poor person.

"What good is excelling in education if we create an arrogant person," he added.

He also called on the people to wish each other during Chinese New Year and Ramadan.

"If we see each other, we can greet them 'Selamat berpuasa' (Happy fasting) or Xin nian kuai le (Happy New Year), gong xi fa cai.

"This shows our togetherness and shows our education.

"There's no need for hostilities," he added.

Also present were Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming and Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh.
