A NEW school curriculum will be introduced in stages from next year aimed at keeping Malaysia’s education system dynamic and preparing students for future challenges, says Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh.

He said the introduction phase of the new curriculum would begin with Year One and Form One students in 2027.

“A curriculum is implemented for a set period, and once that period ends, we will introduce a new curriculum for the school.

“Curriculum reviews will be conducted when necessary. For certain subjects, they can take place from time to time,” he told Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (Muda-Muar) who asked how the ministry carries out reviews of school curriculum.

Earlier, Wong told Mohd Sany Hamzan (PH-Hulu Langat) that the ministry had integrated national and political education elements into history and civics education to provide students with early exposure to the concept of democracy.

He added efforts to strengthen political literacy were also carried out in collaboration with the Election Academy (APR), providing students with authentic learning experiences on the voting process and their responsibilities as voters.

In addition, Wong said that starting this year, the Education Ministry has introduced the Madani Generation Character Building Programme, which focuses on four main components, such as strengthening patriotism and nurturing a positive sense of identity in students.

In his question, Mohd Sany sought clarification on the government’s policy and initiatives in providing civics and political education at the secondary school level, ensuring students gain an early understanding of authentic political concepts prior to exposure to partisan politics.
