Four firms fined RM1mil for illegal storage of subsidised diesel in Sibu


SIBU: Four companies have been fined a total of RM1mil by the Sessions Court for unlawfully storing 324,136 litres of subsidised diesel without a licence.

Two representatives of the four companies, Johnson Tiu Siew Hua and Tiew Sii Kwong, pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Musyiri Peet to possessing controlled items in circumstances that raised reasonable suspicion of misuse.

According to the charge sheets, the offences were committed at about 3.06pm on Aug 25, 2024, at the premises of Syarikat Sri Minyak Tenaga Sdn Bhd at Jeti Tanjung Engkilo, Sungai Batang Rejang.

All the offences were charged under Regulation 3(1) of the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974, which is punishable under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 and, upon conviction, carries a penalty under Section 22(2) of the same Act.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Iezzah Iburdanisha Ibrahim appeared for the prosecution, while lawyer Timothy Lim Teng represented the four companies.
