Six held in Sabah over flight ticket scam

KOTA KINABALU: Four civil servants were among six people arrested for allegedly making RM1.3mil in false claims for non-existent flight travel.

The civil servants from a federal statutory agency and two employees of a travel agency were arrested on Monday at the state Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) when they turned up to give their statements.

Sources said investigators are probing the alleged purchases of flight tickets through government warrants, suspected to be falsified as no tickets were issued by the company to the public officers.

The suspects, aged between 30 and 50, were remanded yesterday by the Magistrate’s Court for further questioning.

State MACC director Datuk Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah confirmed the arrests and said more suspects are expected to be hauled up.
