Unemployed man charged with murdering girlfriend in Ayer Hitam


AYER HITAM: An unemployed man has been charged at the Yong Peng Magistrate Court here for allegedly murdering his girlfriend at their rented home here.

Lim Chee Seong, 44, nodded to indicate that he understood the charge against him after it was read out before Magistrate Arul Noval Dass here on Tuesday (Feb 10).

No plea was recorded from the accused for the offence.

According to the charge sheet, Lim is accused of killing Lim Bee Lan, 41, at a house along Jalan Damai 2/7 in Taman Damai here between 10pm on Jan 26 and 11am on Jan 27.

The charge was framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years, and not less than 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Firdaus Ruslan prosecuted the case, while the accused was unrepresented.

No bail was offered, and the court fixed April 27 for mention pending the post-mortem report, DNA analysis, forensic examination of CCTV footage and the accused’s medical report.

On Jan 30, the victim was found dead in a rented house in Taman Damai here, while her boyfriend was discovered critically injured at the scene.

Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said police were alerted after the victim’s family reported that she had been unreachable for three days.

“At about 12.30am on Friday (Jan 30) morning, Fire and Rescue Department personnel assisted police in breaking into the house forced entry into the premises as the door was locked from the inside.

ACP Shahrulanuar Mushaddat added that upon entering one of the rooms, police found the victim and the suspect lying side by side on a bed.

A medical officer from Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail later confirmed that the woman was dead, while the man was found in critical condition after sustaining slash wounds to his neck and wrists.
