Attempt to smuggle foreign cash foiled


PETALING JAYA: An attempt by a foreign man to smuggle foreign currencies worth RM2.4mil was foiled when he was arrested by the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) at KL International Airport.

The agency said the arrest was made following an inspection operation at the Terminal 1 arri­val hall between 10.30am and 1pm on Friday, shortly after the man arrived at the airport.

“Screening using a baggage-­scanning machine revealed suspicious images, after which the passenger was directed to the Customs Operations Office.

“Further inspection uncovered various foreign currencies concealed in packages of new clothing,” it said in a statement yesterday.

AKPS said the foreign currencies were found in three separate pieces of luggage.

“Also seized were two mobile phones and a pouch bag,” it added.

The man has been handed over to the Customs Prevention Division for further investigation and action.
