KOTA BARU: A mechanic has been seriously injured when an explosion occurred while he was repairing a car's air-conditioning unit at a workshop near Kampung Air Merbo, Jedok, Tanah Merah.
Tanah Merah OCPD Supt Mohd Haki Hasbullah said Mohd Sharul Nizam Rahim, 31, was repairing the vehicle alone in the workshop on Friday (Feb 6) when the explosion occurred.
"We heard about the incident at 8pm. The victim's right leg was badly injured and he was sent to Tanah Merah Hospital.
"His condition has not yet stabilised and he is currently receiving treatment at the hospital's intensive care unit," he said in a statement on Saturday (Feb 7).
He said preliminary investigations indicate that the explosion was due to a gas leak from an air conditioning unit, adding that a police forensic unit and a bomb disposal unit along with the Fire and Rescue Department are investigating.
He added that there were no witnesses to the explosion nor any CCTV installed at the workshop. – Bernama
