Suspect nabbed after returning to steal vehicle parts at Kluang Municipal Council depot

KLUANG: A 33-year-old man who allegedly stole vehicle components from the Kluang Municipal Council’s (MPK) depot was arrested after he returned to the scene to steal again.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said the suspect was caught at about 2.15am on Thursday (Feb 5) at the MPK vehicle seizure depot.

“We earlier received a report at about 8am on Wednesday (Feb 4) regarding the theft of vehicle components.

“Acting on information, a team from the Kluang police station conducted a raid at the depot and arrested the suspect when he returned to the scene,” ACP Bahrin said in a statement on Friday (Feb 6).

Police also seized various items believed to be linked to the theft, such as four sport rims with tyres, three vehicle jacks, a tyre wrench, 16 sport rim screws, a hammer, a flat-head screwdriver, a red headlamp torch, cutting pliers, two bags and a remote control device.

Also seized were a pair of fabric gloves, a camouflage-pattern face mask and a baseball cap.

“A urine test conducted on the suspect was positive for methamphetamine,” ACP Bahrin said, adding that the man has prior criminal records involving criminal and drug-related cases.

The suspect is under a four-day remand starting Thursday to assist in investigation under Section 379A(1) of the Penal Code for theft of a motor vehicle or its components, which carries a jail term of between one and seven years, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

He is also being investigated under Section 447 of the Penal Code for criminal trespass, which carries a punishment of up to six months’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM3,000, or both.
