PETALING JAYA: The Special Committee for E-Waste Coordination will conduct a comprehensive and holistic study on issues related to e-waste, particularly those involving entry, management, and enforcement at the national level, says the Malaysian Border Control and Protection (AKPS).
Port Klang AKPS commander Datuk Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal, who also chairs the committee, said that several main scopes will be examined, including the e-waste ecosystem as a whole and its global developments, as well as looking at current laws to identify loopholes and proposing improvements.
He added that enforcement will also be looked into to identify challenges and weaknesses, and the immediate disposal of e-waste consignments, particularly those posing risks of environmental pollution and threats to public health.
“In this regard, the secretariat will submit formal requests for feedback to the relevant agencies and ministries. A subsequent coordination meeting will be convened to appoint committee members and to coordinate and refine the feedback received, towards establishing a more effective and integrity-driven direction for the management and enforcement of e-waste,” he said.
