PETALING JAYA: A multi-vehicle crash along the North-South Expressway (PLUS) led to the death of one person, with several others injured.
In a statement yesterday, Hulu Selangor OCPD Supt Ibrahim Husin said that the accident involved a bus carrying some 22 passengers and two lorries.
“Preliminary investigations showed that the incident occurred when the bus, travelling from Alor Setar to Kuala Lumpur, reached KM433.0 of the expressway.
“The bus, travelling on the left lane, collided with the rear of the trailer lorry, causing it to skid into the right lane.
“Subsequently, a second lorry travelling in the left lane attempted to avoid the bus involved in the accident but then collided with the rear of the first lorry, which was obstructing the middle and right lanes,” said Supt Ibrahim.
The resulting crashes killed one of the lorry drivers who was trapped inside the vehicle.
Eight others, including five bus passengers, also suffered minor injuries and were sent to Hospital Sungai Buloh for treatment.
“All bus passengers who were uninjured were taken to the Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) bus terminal by a replacement bus. Investigations are being conducted under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” Supt Ibrahim said.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department senior operations commander Mustakim Rimon said the lorry driver was found trapped and was later confirmed dead by rescue personnel.
“His remains were subsequently handed over to the police for further action,” he said.
He added that the lorry attendant suffered rib fractures and was taken to Hospital Sungai Buloh for treatment.
