Cabinet agrees to toll discounts, price controls for CNY

PUTRAJAYA: The Cabinet has agreed to give toll discounts and implement price controls for essential items during the Chinese New Year period, says the government spokesperson Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

"This is to reduce travel costs for the public. Full details, including vehicle classes and the discount provided, will be announced by the Works Ministry," said the Communications Minister.

He also said that Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali informed the Cabinet that the government would implement price controls for nine days from Feb 13 to 21.

"A total of 16 types of goods will be subject to price controls under the Chinese New Year Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme for 2026.

"This is to ensure price stability and protect consumers from unreasonable price increases, especially during the festive season," he said, adding that the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry would provide more details later.
