Mara will not tolerate staff misconduct, says Asyraf Wajdi

KOTA TINGGI: Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) will not cover up any misconduct involving its staff, says Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

The Mara chairman said they would ensure appropriate action is taken by the authorities against any individual found to have committed an offence, including criminal breach of trust.

He said Mara has always placed emphasis on matters related to integrity, discipline and strict adherence to good governance.

"We will not compromise. That is why we have never covered up or swept integrity or misconduct issues under the carpet.

"If it involves criminal breach of trust, we will lodge reports with the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) ,” he told reporters after the launch of the Logistics Learning Provider (LLP) initiative at Kolej Professional Mara Bandar Penawar here on Wednesday (Feb 4).

On Mara’s efforts to curb integrity issues involving its staff, Asyraf Wajdi said their employees had always been reminded to practice its 3iP work culture comprising Integriti, Ihsan and Inovatif (integrity, compassion and innovation).

He said the culture must go hand in hand with a high level of professionalism among staff, including compliance with established governance standards.

"We, as humans, are not perfect, but that does not become an excuse for us to tolerate or legitimise misconduct,” he said.

On Jan 19, a former Mara assistant officer was charged with criminal breach of trust involving money deposited into her account for the purpose of making Mara loan repayments under several financing schemes, before allegedly misappropriating the funds.

The 40-year-old woman pleaded not guilty at the Muar Sessions Court to 25 charges of criminal breach of trust involving RM15,839.66 belonging to four individuals related to the loan repayments. — Bernama
