JOHOR BARU: Police have revealed that the male and female victims, who were among six charred skeletal remains found at an abandoned house in Kangkar Pulai, were only friends.
Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said they were friends when asked whether the 35-year-old woman and 28-year-old man shared a romantic relationship.
He also said no new arrests have been made other than the two suspects who have been charged at the Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday (Feb 4) morning with causing the death of the male victim.
“The next mention for the case has been fixed for April 6.
“During this period, we will complete the necessary toxicology, medical and forensics reports required for the case,” he said when met by reporters after the retirement ceremony of the Johor deputy police chief today.
Comm Ab Rahaman said the reports could take one to two months time to produce, depending on the relevant departments.
He declined to reveal the motive of the murder when asked, saying: “We will not reveal the motive, let it be heard in court.”
On Jan 9, a man’s three-month search for his missing wife and children concluded when he discovered six charred skeletal remains, including those of four children, in a burnt, abandoned house within an oil palm plantation in Kangkar Pulai.
The 48-year-old man claimed his wife and children had been staying at the house after they separated about three months ago, and he had since been trying to locate them.
Post-mortem reports confirmed the remains belonged to two adults, a teenager and three children who had been reported missing earlier.
The children were believed to be aged two, five, nine and 17.
Checks also revealed that the children, comprising one boy and three girls, had no school records.
