Johor agent nabbed in ‘flying passport’ ops

JOHOR BARU: A 44-year-old agent has been detained for allegedly offering the “Flying Passport” service.

Johor Immigration director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said the suspect was arrested in an operation at an apartment in Taman Daya here around 6.50pm on Jan 29.

“We seized nine foreign passports believed to have been misused as travel documents to facilitate irregular entry and exit from the country,” he said in a statement yesterday.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the syndicate had been active for about six months, and the suspect was an agent charging RM850 for each passport handled,” he said.

“Flying Passport” refers to the illegal practice of submitting a passport for immigration matters without the holder being present.

Mohd Rusdi said the suspect is being held at the Johor Immigration Enforcement Division for further investigation under the Passport Act 1966 (Act 150).
