Police search for suspect in woman’s stabbing


ALOR SETAR: The body of a woman, suspected of being murdered, was found in a house in Jalan Tanjung Bendahara here.

Kota Setar district police chief ACP Syed Basri Syed Ali said the victim, known as Zahrullail Basir, 52, was found dead with three stab wounds to the body, including her stomach, as well as cuts on her head and palms.

“The Kota Setar District Control Centre received a call at 8.45am from a man informing them of a murder involving his mother, who was suspected of being stabbed in the body and beaten on the head.

“The victim lived in the house in question with three of her children. The victim was confirmed dead at the scene of the incident, and her body was sent to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital’s f­orensic department for a post-mortem,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He said that in the incident, a handbag containing a handphone, as well as cash and jewellery, was missing.

Syed Basri said the police are still conducting further investigations and actively tracking down a suspect to assist with it, Bernama reported.

Police are requesting that an individual named Amirul Shafiq Shamsul Zahari, with the IC number 970524-02-5557, come forward and assist with the investigation at any nearby police station or contact the investigating officer for the case.

“The police are also requesting the cooperation of witnesses, especially the victim’s immediate family members or individuals with information related to the incident, to come forward and provide statements at the nearest police station or at the Kota Setar district police headquarters.

“Any information can also be channelled through 04-774 7222,” he added.
