ALOR GAJAH: A 40-year-old teacher weighing 350kg had to be carried out of his home in Kuala Sungai Baru by firefighters after he became too weak to move.

Melaka Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Mohd Hafidzatullah Rashid said the early morning rescue operation yesterday took about 20 minutes as the man was in a small bathroom.

“The Masjid Tanah Fire and Rescue Station received an emergency call from the victim’s wife at 2.56am, and the team reached the scene at 3.08am.

“The wife tried to help him get out of the bathroom, but to no avail, leading to her calling the department for assistance,” he said in a statement, Bernama reported.

He added that the wife informed them that her husband had been bedridden with a fever for more than a week and was resting at home on medical leave.

The eight-man rescue team had to calm the victim first, as he was experiencing asthma and pain from a leg infection.

Mohd Hafidzatullah said the teacher was finally sent to the Alor Gajah Hospital for treatment.
