Rayer praises caring nurse, urges Opposition to emulate her

KUALA LUMPUR: Penang nurse Nur Deena Nadzhiefa has been praised by an MP for embodying the qualities of a true Malaysian.

"She should be praised. She... embodies the qualities of a true statesman (and) reflects the qualities of the true Malaysia," RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) said when debating the motion of thanks on the Royal Address in the Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday (Jan 28).

Nur Deena recently received recognition from the Health Ministry for her empathetic care of a senior citizen that recently went viral.

She was recorded feeding the patient by hand.

"She did not want the patient to have difficulties with the food," Rayer said.

Kalam Salan (PN-Sabak Bernam) then interjected, saying that he used to do that as well.

"I am also a statesman," Kalam said sarcastically.

Rayer then expressed disappointment that the matter had been turned into a laughing stock.

Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul said it was a serious matter involving the service of a nurse.

Rayer then said the Opposition MPs should be proud of Nur Deena's act and emulate it.

"It is such a shame," he said of Kalam's response.
