Probe of Apandi classified as NFA, Saifuddin tells Parliament

KUALA LUMPUR: Police investigations of allegations that former attorney general Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali covered up crimes committed by former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak have been officially classified as "No Further Action" (NFA), says Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

In a parliamentary written reply dated Tuesday (Jan 27), Saifuddin Nasution said police had investigated the claims under Section 217 of the Penal Code, which covers contravention of the law by a public officer to save a person from punishment or seizure of property.

"The investigation was completed and referred to the Attorney General’s Chambers on Oct 5, 2022, with the (decision of) NFA," he told Pang Hok Liong (PH-Labis), who wanted to know the status of the probe.

Separately, Saifuddin Nasution declined to provide information on the investigation of the attack on Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli’s son.

This came after Rafizi (PH-Pandan) had asked the minister to make public certain information that was conveyed to him privately in December regarding the outcome of the investigation, via a parliamentary question.

"I wish to clarify that making such confirmation publicly in this Honourable House may hinder the process of apprehending the suspects and could compromise the safety of key witnesses. Therefore, the request cannot be accommodated," Saifuddin Nasution said.

"The ministry assures that justice will be upheld without compromise. Any further developments that can be disclosed to the public without jeopardising the investigation will be communicated through an official statement by the Home Ministry and the police in due course," he added.

The 12-year-old son of the former economy minister was attacked at a shopping mall in Putrajaya in August last year.
