SHAH ALAM: In a rare blend of personal and political ties, the families of two prominent Malaysian political figures were joined through marriage this week.
Sabrina, the niece of former Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, exchanged vows with Yusuf, the son of Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.
The ceremony turned long-time political acquaintances into relatives, linking the former defence minister and the former Selangor Mentri Besar.
Sharing the news on Instagram, Hishammuddin described the occasion as a meaningful family gathering.
“A beautiful evening with siblings, relatives and friends. Together, we witnessed the special moment of my niece, Sabrina, exchanging vows with her chosen partner, Yusuf,” he wrote.
He also congratulated the parents, his siblings Datuk Haris Onn Hussein and Datin Shazlin, as well as new in-laws Azmin and Datin Seri Shamshida Taharin.
The wedding follows a social media post by Hishammuddin on Wednesday (Jan 21) that drew widespread attention after he shared a photo of himself seated with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“Taking time to discuss one or two matters with PMX, Anwar Ibrahim, during the parliamentary sitting just now,” he wrote on Facebook.
The post sparked positive reactions from netizens, who praised the leaders for engaging in light-hearted conversation despite their differing political views.
Observers noted that while Hishammuddin had previously stated his refusal to cooperate with Pakatan Harapan in November 2022, the interaction showed that the two leaders remain on friendly terms in the Dewan Rakyat, having both been active under the Umno banner in the past.
