Police raid mini casino operating out of Sentul condominium; 18 arrested

PETALING JAYA: Eighteen individuals were detained following a raid on a mini casino operating out of a condominium unit in Sentul on Thursday (Jan 22).

Those detained comprised 14 local men and two local women, as well as two women who are citizens of Vietnam and Thailand aged in their 20s and 30s.

Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department (CID) said the operation, which began at about 10pm, was carried out by the Kuala Lumpur and Sentul Anti-Vice, Gambling and Secret Societies division (D7).

"Investigations revealed that the mini casino had been operating since the end of November last year and was not linked to any syndicate.

"The premises operated from a rented condominium unit and only accepted players among close acquaintances of the operator or through specific invitations to avoid detection by the police,” it said in a statement on Friday (Jan 23).

During the raid, police seized a poker table, eight chairs, 52 playing cards and 625 chips of various colours, estimated to be worth RM19,325.

All suspects have been remanded to facilitate investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.
