IPOH: Perak recorded nearly RM1.5bil in state revenue in 2025, surpassing its target of RM1.4bil, says Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

The Perak Menteri Besar said the achievement was proof that the state was functioning effectively and was disciplined with its administration.

"We can be proud of our financial performance in recent years, as Perak has exceeded its revenue targets for four consecutive years,” he said in his speech during the Executive Talk and New Year's Message 2026 on Thursday (Jan 22).

"The state has once again closed its accounts with a surplus of about RM85mil in the consolidated revenue account last year, the highest ever in the state’s history. This marked the fourth consecutive year of surplus since 2022,” he added.

Saarani said the state revenue target for 2026 has been set at RM1.48bil, but cautioned against complacency, noting that the challenges in the coming year would be greater and more complex.

He said development needs, maintenance costs and disaster preparation expenses were rising.

"We must also invest strategically to ensure the success of the Perak Sejahtera 2030 plan,” he added.

He said the target was set after discussions with the Perak Land and Mines Office.

To achieve this, Saarani said the state must maximise existing revenue potential and ensure there are no recurring tax arrears.

“For example, government land applications must be processed quickly at the district level to enable the collection of premium payments and taxes,” he said.

Saarani also outlined five key priorities for 2026, including economic sustainability, resolving public complaints, digital and AI transformation in public service, ensuring the success of Visit Malaysia Year 2026 and strengthening administrative work culture.
