Four held over RM580k bribery case


SEREMBAN: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has obtained an order to remand four suspects, including three civil servants, for allegedly ­soliciting and accepting bribes amounting to RM580,000.

Magistrate Nurul Farha Ismail signed the order allowing the MACC to remand them for five days until Jan 24 to assist in investigations.

According to a source, the four suspects are under investigation for allegedly accepting bribes from a company that provides consulting services for pollution control equipment.

The suspects were detained during an operation carried out here on Monday.

“The suspects are believed to have conspired to commit the act between 2020 and 2025 in return for providing information on companies that had problems with electrical and electronic waste.

“They allegedly received some RM180,000 in 2020 and RM200,000 each in January and February 2022,” said the source.

The source said the cash was allegedly transferred into the bank account of one of the suspects.

State MACC chief Awgkok Ahmad Taufik Putra Awg Ismail, when contacted, confirmed the arrests, adding that the case was being probed under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
