NILAI: Nine individuals from IJM Corporation have been summoned for interviews by the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC), says Tan Sri Azam Baki.
The MACC commissioner said his officers had contacted the individuals, including two who hold top positions, to be interviewed after allegations of wrongdoings began making their rounds on social media.
"They started turning up from 10am this morning.
"They will only be interviewed for now and there will be no arrests," he said.
Azam said the two individuals who were said to be abroad have also returned home.
He said it was premature for him to make any comment related to the alleged wrongdoing for now.
"We are still probing and if there is a case, we will then proceed with investigations and if there is none, we will also forward our findings to the deputy public prosecutor," he said when met after officially opening the Malaysian Anti Corruption Academy's basic training centre in Bandar Enstek near here.
Earlier, it was reported that graft busters are investigating IJM Corporation Bhd over an alleged money-laundering scheme involving up to RM2.5bil.
It is learnt that the MACC is also probing suspected manipulation of the company’s share price.
Sources said two people of interest have been identified – a senior member of the company’s management who holds the title of Tan Sri, and a company adviser.
Azam appealed to the public to stop speculating on the case as this could jeopardise investigations.
"When you speculate, there is already a negative-like perception.
"There are many out there who have been making allegations through their blogs and other means and some of these were not true," he said.
Azam said his officers began their probe on Monday (Jan 19) and they needed time to complete investigations.
The probe follows an investigation by the United Kingdom’s Serious Fraud Office into suspected money laundering and corruption.
On Monday, IJM confirmed that MACC officers and the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) were present at the company’s office to obtain information.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the construction company said it is cooperating fully with the authorities.
The company said it will continue to monitor developments in this matter and will make timely disclosures should there be any material updates.
