Cops nab nine suspected mule account holders in Muar


MUAR: Police have arrested nine individuals believed to have acted as mule account holders involved in online scam activities.

Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the nine suspects were detained in an operation conducted across several states in the peninsula on Saturday (Jan 10).

“Checks revealed that the nine suspects, comprising seven local men and two local women aged between 24 and 5,9 had acted as mule account holders.

“They handed over their ATM cards and banking details to online scam syndicates, which were then used as channels to receive money from victims,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

He added that the total losses recorded by the victims exceeded RM781,000.

“The fraud activities involving these individuals were detected to have taken place between December 2024 and October 2025,” he said.

ACP Raiz said that all suspects would be brought before the Muar Magistrate Court for a remand order to facilitate further investigations and to track down the syndicate's network.

“This case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, which carries a jail term of not less than one year and not more than 10 years, whipping and a fine.

“I emphasise that handing over bank accounts, ATM cards or personal information to any party is a serious offence, even if the individual claims they did not receive any benefit,” he stressed.

He added that the police will continue to intensify intelligence-gathering, detection, and arrest operations against any party involved, directly or indirectly, in fraudulent activities, including those who provide bank accounts to syndicates.

“The public is advised to always be alert, not to easily fall for offers on social media and to lodge a police report immediately if they suspect any fraudulent activity.

“We remain committed and consistent in protecting the community from commercial crime threats,” he said.
