'No more zumba at Bukit Badong hall', says village committee chairman

KUALA LUMPUR: Zumba activities and organisers involved in a recent session carried out in school uniforms have been prohibited from using the Bukit Badong public hall.

Sinar Harian reported on Tuesday (Jan 20) that the Bukit Badong Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK) took strict action by immediately stopping the activity and banning the organisers from future use of the hall.

Village JPKK chairman Muhammad Nasir Ahmad said the action followed a TikTok Live broadcast of the session which sparked controversy and community discomfort.

He said the incident occurred between 9am and 10am during a women-only programme that has run since 2018 at the Kampung Bukit Badong Community Hall.

"This programme was previously conducted behind closed doors to maintain the decency and respect of the participants. However, this time it went viral when one of the trainers made a TikTok Live broadcast with the theme 'Back To School' and wore school uniforms," he said on Tuesday (Jan 20).

Muhammad Nasir said it was distressing that during the broadcast, the trainer removed her clothes on the pretext of restricted movement, with the image being recorded and circulated online.

He said a stern warning has been given to the organisers, who are now banned from the hall.

"I understand that the police have opened an investigation paper and three individuals have been called to give statements at the Kuala Selangor District Police Headquarters. Officers from the Selangor Islamic Religious Department have also visited the hall to conduct further investigations," he added.

Muhammad Nasir stressed that hall usage conditions require activities to be private and decent.

Kuala Selangor OCPD Supt Azaharudin Tajudin said his department opened an investigation after detecting the photos and videos on Saturday (Jan 17).

Since the incident went viral, a social media user has apologised, claiming the incident happened spontaneously and without the organisers' knowledge.
