IPOH: A series of more than 1,000 "Jualan Sejahtera Rakyat Ikan Murah” or cheap fish sales will be held throughout Perak this year, organised by the Malaysian Fisheries Development Board (LKIM).

State rural development, plantation, agriculture and food industry committee chairman Datuk Mohd Zolkafly Harun said a variety of fish species would be offered based on local demand at prices between 20% and 40% lower than prevailing market prices.

"For example, mackerel will be sold at RM13.60 per kg compared to the market price of RM17 per kg, and jenahak at RM36 per kg compared to the market price of RM45 per kg.

"The sales will be carried out under tents or using tricycles or lorries three times a week at selected locations," he told a press conference, which was also attended by Perak LKIM director Ahmad Zulkifli Ismail, here on Monday (Jan 19).

Zolkafly said anyone seeking further information on the programme could visit LKIM Perak’s official Facebook page.

He added that LKIM also welcomed the participation of entrepreneurs interested in joining the initiative.

He said the programme is implemented in line with the state’s fisheries production and aims to strengthen the supply chain as well as enhance food security. – Bernama
