Umno AGM: Puteri Umno chief tells off delegate for calling members 'gedik', says remark degrading

KUALA LUMPUR: Puteri Umno chief Datuk Nurul Amal Fauzi reprimanded a Melaka Umno delegate for calling a member "gedik" (acting overly cute), saying that the remark was degrading.

In her closing speech, Nurul Amal told the Melaka delegate to retract his remarks made as a “pantun” (poem) that described Puteri members as “gedik” or acting cute or flirtatious.

“Firstly, I would like to request the Malacca delegate withdraw his remarks. What did he call Puteri? ‘Getik’ or ‘gedik’.

“Please retract that. As Puteri members today, most of us have at least a degree, so don’t describe us that way. That’s not nice,” she said at the Umno general assembly here on Saturday (Jan 17).

Earlier, the Melaka delegate, Senator Datuk Mustafa Musa said, “If Pemuda (Youth) are not naughty, if Puteri are not ‘getik’, if Wanita does not chatter, if Umno (men) do not shout, then democracy will be dead.”
