KUALA LUMPUR: Wanita Umno will form a special digital taskforce to increase the online presence of the party, says Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad.

The Wanita Umno chief said the party needs to be tech-savvy if it wants to strengthen its presence on social media.

“Wanita Umno will establish a special digital squad to serve as the party’s frontline to face the war in the cyber world.

“Wanita Umno cannot lose again in this social media battle,” she said during her winding-up for the party’s women wing at the Umno General Assembly here on Saturday (Jan 17).

Noraini also stressed that Umno must prove it is changing, beyond transformation efforts and opening up space for the grassroots.

The Parit Sulong Member of Parliament said Umno should be in the phase of "reality" politics, instead of holding on to nostalgia.

“The voters are not easily swayed by political rhetoric but instead they want to see opportunities and what Umno can offer for the future.

“This is not the time to play up sentiments but to display our performance to the people. Wanita has accepted this reality,” she added.

Noraini, who is also Plantation and Commodities Minister, also added that Wanita Umno strongly supports the hope and aspirations of Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in the formation of the Rumah Bangsa or unification house.

She said that the Rumah Bangsa will be the place for all as  well as a “shelter” to showcase the strength of the Malays.
