RM4bil drug seizures last year set new benchmark for NCID, says director

KUALA LUMPUR: The Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) must use its strong performance last year as a springboard to further strengthen integrity, discipline and professionalism in confronting increasingly complex and transnational drug crimes, says Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan (pic).

The NCID director commended his officers and personnel nationwide for achieving the department’s best performance to date last year, with more than RM4bil in drugs seized and 270 syndicates dismantled.

"Various fears were achieved including improving operational effectiveness, higher-quality intelligence work, successful forfeiture of assets linked to criminal activities and enhanced professionalism in investigations.

"It reflected strong commitment, teamwork and capability across the NCID," he said in his New Year address recently at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol).

Comm Hussein said the successes must now serve as a new benchmark and catalyst to further reinforce integrity, discipline and professionalism, especially as drug-related crimes become more sophisticated, organised and cross-border in nature.

"NCID officers and personnel must remain proactive, courageous in decision-making and firmly grounded in good governance, with zero tolerance for misconduct or ethical breaches.

"We also need to further empower intelligence capabilities, carry out high-impact operations and adopt a holistic approach to investigations.

"It should encompases asset forfeiture, prosecution and prevention, to ensure enforcement actions deliver long-term disruption to drug syndicates," he added.

Strategic cooperation at both national and international levels, remains crucial in addressing the drug threat comprehensively, Comm Hussein stressed.

"The event serves as an important platform to unite leadership and personnel in strengthening organisational readiness and reaffirming NCID’s continued commitment to combating drug-related crimes for national security and public well-being," he said.

Among those who attended the event were NCID top leadership, including deputy directors Deputy Comm Mohd Zani Che Din, DCP Datuk Mat Zani Mohd Salahuddin and Senior Asst Comm Mohd Zaki Ashar as well as NCID state chiefs from across the country and senior officers.
