SEPANG: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) is enhancing operations and infrastructure at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to streamline passenger flow and elevate travel experience in preparation for Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026).
Managing director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani said plans to reduce congestion, including tweaks to screening and queue management processes, have contributed to smoother passenger flow.
“Many of these improvements took place behind the scenes but when passenger flow is clearer, travellers can feel the difference,” he told reporters after a walkabout at KLIA here.
He said the improvements would also influence KLIA’s standing in international airport benchmarks such as Skytrax and the Airports Council International Airport Service Quality awards.
On Tuesday, the airport operator unveiled Rimba, a new nature-inspired space for transit and transfer passengers at KLIA Terminal 1, to enhance comfort.
Located in the Satellite Building, Rimba was launched by Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Dr Wan Ismail on Jan 1.
Mohd Izani explained that the new feature is an upgraded version of the former Jungle Boardwalk, designed to prioritise passenger comfort and experience.
It offers a calm setting that provides visual relief for travellers on transit.
“With 50 to 60 million passengers passing through KLIA each year, how travellers feel during transit matters.
“Rimba offers a more comfortable pause between flights while giving passengers a sense of Malaysia’s rich, natural character,” he said, Bernama reported.
Spanning 970sqm, Rimba features refreshed entrances, enriched greenery, locally crafted rattan lighting and garden-style seating to ease travel fatigue and support smoother passenger flow.
