PUTRAJAYA: Social media platform provider X Corp will be meeting the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) over the controversial AI chatbot Grok that was temporarily banned recently.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said MCMC contacted X at 10am on Wednesday (Jan 14) to arrange a meeting next week.
"A few matters need to be verified before that meeting. We are waiting for a response," he said in his post-Cabinet meeting press conference on Wednesday.
On Tuesday (Jan 13), Fahmi said the MCMC may take legal action against X over its failure to restrict access to harmful content generated by Grok.

Fahmi said the MCMC had contacted X to request feedback on Grok, but noted that the response by the social media giant was not satisfactory.
Grok was temporarily blocked on Sunday (Jan 11) following repeated misuse of the AI chatbot to generate obscene, sexually explicit, indecent, grossly offensive and non-consensual manipulated images, including content involving women and minors.
Meanwhile, Fahmi said he joined a meeting with the Online Safety Committee, chaired by Tan Sri Hasnah Hashim, and another meeting with Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, on Tuesday to discuss the Online Safety Act (Onsa).
According to Fahmi, discussions centred on current challenges in implementing Onsa, which came into force on Jan 1.
"This committee will help monitor and define what is meant by online harms.
"I hope this committee will function well, efficiently and independently to ensure that cyberspace is safe for children and families," he added.
In December, the MCMC said Onsa introduces a regulatory framework which lays out responsibilities for platforms to manage harmful content such as content related to child sex abuse, pornography, obscenity and self-harm.
The Communications Ministry said that under Onsa, service providers will be responsible for ensuring their platforms are not accessible to users under the age of 16.
