Ruler wants firm action against immoral activities in S’gor

PETALING JAYA: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has ordered state religious authorities to take firm action against any immoral activities involving what he described as deviant practices in Selangor.

In a joint statement issued by Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) chairman Datuk Salehuddin Saidin and Selangor Mufti Datuk Dr Anhar Opir, it said His Royal Highness has expressed strong opposition and objection against any deviant activities related to LGBT held in the state.

“His Royal Highness does not consent to any form of festivals, parades, activities, celebrations or promotions of the deviant LGBT lifestyle in any district within the state.

“His Royal Highness does not consent to the establishment of any associations, clubs, organisations or NGOs related to LGBT in Selangor,” the statement said after both were granted an audience with the Sultan at Istana Bukit Kayangan in Shah Alam yesterday.

The meeting was held to convey the Sultan’s firm stance against the “Glamping With Pride” programme in Hulu Langat, scheduled to take place next week.

In line with the Sultan’s directive, Mais and the Selangor Mufti also expressed strong opposition to any form of activity or promotion related to LGBT practices, stating that such acts are prohibited in Islam and contradict Islamic teachings.

The statement said any effort to promote or normalise LGBT practices contradicts the objectives of Islamic law (Maqasid Syariah), particularly in preserving lineage, and poses a threat to the Islamic faith.

Mais and the state Mufti also urged the police and local authorities to block the programme and refrain from issuing any permits for the “Glamping with Pride” programme or any similar programmes in Selangor.

“The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais), local authorities and the police have also been urged to conduct close monitoring and take firm legal action to ensure that such activities are not held,” the statement said.

Mais and the Selangor Mufti also called for the commitment of all parties to safeguard the sanctity of Islam to ensure that the state remains harmonious and free from any deviant practices that contradict Islamic teachings.

On Jan 10, Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Naazron Abdul Yusof said five police reports have been lodged on an advertisement for the “Glamping with Pride” event.
