Marine cops seize RM1.57mil worth of subsidised cooking oil in Sandakan

KOTA KINABALU: Over RM1.57mil worth of subsidised cooking oil was confiscated when marine police noticed suspicious activities being carried out in Sandakan.

Sandakan marine police acting commander Supt Jaffri Bidin said in the 12.35pm operation on Friday (Jan 9), marine officials had noticed some dubious activities being carried out in a warehouse along Mile ½ and went in to investigate.

“Upon inspection, we found that repacking of cooking oil was being carried out. We believe the subsidised cooking oil was being repacked as export cooking oil illegally,” he said.

He said they suspected the oil was meant for international markets.

Supt Jafri said two tankers, a box lorry and hundreds of boxes of cooking oil were found at the scene while a Pakistani, who failed to produce any documents supporting the operation, was arrested.

“We seized a total of 926 boxes of cooking oil of various brands and three trucks,” he said, adding that the total seized value exceeded RM1.576mil.

Investigations under the Supply Controls Act 1961 were ongoing, he said in thanking the public for their continued support towards the enforcement agency.

Supt Jafri called on the public to continue working with the authorities to uphold law and order.
