PAS has selected a candidate for Perikatan chairman post, says party info chief

KUALA LUMPUR: PAS has selected its candidate for the Perikatan chairman’s post, according to its information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari.

Sinar Harian reported that Ahmad Fadhli said the party had already chosen who will replace former Perikatan chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

“Only one name. At the central level, the name has been decided and I am not sure about the submission process as I am not in the Perikatan Supreme Council. I am sure his name has been conveyed to Tan Sri Muhyiddin for further action,” he said during a press conference on Thursday (Jan 8).

According to Ahmad Fadhli, the candidate’s name has been decided, but he is unsure about the submission process.

It was reported on Dec 30, 2025, that Muhyiddin would step down as Perikatan chairman effective Jan 1, 2026.

Several Bersatu leaders have also stepped down, including Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, who resigned as Perikatan secretary-general and Selangor Perikatan liaison committee chairman.

Others who announced their resignations were Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal (Johor Perikatan chairman), Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu (Perak Perikatan chairman) and Mohamad Hanifah (Negri Perikatan chairman).
