BALIK PULAU: The 10-year-old boy, Zaeed Khan Wazir Khan, who was stung by a pale-edged stingray while bathing at Pantai Tanjung Asam, Gertak Sanggul, here last Saturday, was discharged from hospital yesterday evening.
His mother, Siti Aishah Zainal Abidin, 37, said her only child’s condition was improving and that he was resting at home but still required monitoring, as he was showing mild fever symptoms.
"Alhamdulillah, Zaeed Khan is recovering. There’s just a little fluid coming from the sting wound, but he’s not in pain and only experiences occasional itching.
"The doctor gave us fever medicine and antibiotics, and also advised us to be careful and wear proper bathing suits and shoes to prevent something like that from happening again,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.
Recalling the incident at around 5pm, Siti Aishah said she and her husband panicked after their child suddenly screamed in pain and was unable to get up, with a lot of blood coming from his right leg.
"The traffic was bad that day since it was Saturday and a school holiday and Penang Hospital (HPP) was quite far from the beach in Balik Pulau. It was really stressful, with our child crying, and we couldn’t even touch his leg because of the pain,” she said.
Although the incident did not have a major emotional impact on their child, Siti Aishah said her family had learned a lesson and would be more careful in future, especially when bathing at the beach, to avoid a similar incident.
