KUALA TERENGGANU: Relevant authorities here are closely monitoring efforts to prevent the spread of deviant teachings in the country, says Dr Zulkifli Hasan.

The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) said: “All such (deviant) teachings are on our radar”.

“Monitoring and enforcement efforts must also be carried out in accordance with the law,” he told reporters after officiating the “Skuad Ihsan Madani” (Religious Affairs) post-disaster aid programme yesterday.

Zulkifli said it is also crucial that the community, including non-governmental organisations and related institutions, play a role in addressing the issue to ensure that Malaysia remains a model Islamic nation.

Last Thursday, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay revealed that the police are closely monitoring 14 deviant teachings that have been identified as still active in the country.

Apart from these actions, Zulkifli said related agencies remain proactive in conducting advocacy programmes for various segments of society.

He added that such programmes are not only centred on the dangers of deviant teachings but also knowledge on the beauty of Islam based on the Quran and Sunnah.

“The most important thing is how we convey the true teachings of Islam so that all deviant teachings can be eradicated,” he said.

Earlier, Zulkifli presented aid in the form of basic necessities and school supplies to more than 100 residents in Kuala Terengganu affected by the floods due to the current monsoon season.

He said that a total of 540 students and 772 families affected by floods in Terengganu have benefited from the “Skuad Ihsan” missions, which are being implemented by agencies under his responsibility.
