MA63 progress tracking dashboard set to launch

KUALA LUMPUR: The development of a new online dashboard to track the implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) is set to be launched at the end of the month, says Sabah and Sarawak Affairs Minister Datuk Mustapha Sakmud.

He said the initiative has been approved by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof to increase transparency, particularly regarding Sabah’s claim for a 40% revenue entitlement.

“The government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim remains steadfast in protecting and advancing the rights and interests of Sabah and Sarawak, in line with the spirit of MA63,” he said in his New Year 2026 message yesterday.

He added that the MA63 negotiation platform has been strengthened with the formation of the MA63 Implementation Action Council (MTPMA63), chaired by the Prime Minister, and a technical committee led by Fadillah, reported Bernama.

So far, 13 out of 29 MA63 issues have been resolved. Nine were settled under the current administration and four under the previous one.

Key resolutions under the government include recognising the Public Works Department and Department of Irrigation and Drainage in both states, as well as the Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department and Sabah Water Department, as technical departments under Treasury Directive 182.

The government has also devolved regulatory authority over gas and electricity supply to the state governments of Sabah and Sarawak.

Mustapha said the federal and state governments are continuously negotiating the remaining 16 MA63 matters via the MTPMA63 council and its technical committee.

Acting as the joint secretariat, the Prime Minister’s Department for Sabah and Sarawak Affairs is closely monitoring the process in consultation with all stakeholders.

The department will also continue to facilitate engagement sessions with relevant ministries, agencies, industry representatives, academics and NGOs to advance the implementation of MA63.
