Serdang assault suspect to be charged next week


SERDANG: The suspect who allegedly assaulted a fast-food restaurant worker in Serdang Raya is set to be charged on Jan 8.

Serdang OCPD Asst Comm Muhamad Farid Ahmad said the suspect will be charged at a Petaling Jaya Magistrate’s Court.

"We received instructions to prosecute the suspect after the investigation paper was referred to the deputy public prosecutor.

"The suspect is currently abroad, and she will be charged on Jan 8 after she returns to the country," he told a press conference at district police headquarters here on Tuesday (Dec 30).

It was reported that the incident occurred at around 4pm on Dec 8 when the victim, Rani Arumugam, 45, was working.

Rani claimed she was approached by seven individuals, three men and four women, with the 40-year-old suspect, known to her via TikTok, allegedly punching her five times on the left side of the face.

She said the attack left her with swelling on her left cheek and a small cut on the inside of her left lip.

It was reported that the incident occurred because of a social media dispute.

ACP Farid said on Dec 18 that the suspect had been called in to give her statement.
