Search operation continues for boy missing after crocodile attack in Daro


DARO: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for a 14-year-old boy, suspected to have been attacked by a crocodile three days ago, resumed on Sunday (Dec 28).

The victim, Augustine Fernando Nyalong, was by the riverbank of Sungai Kelai in Pulau Bruit around 5.30pm when he was reportedly dragged into the river by a crocodile.

The Daro Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call at approximately 5.45pm on Friday (Dec 26) and immediately initiated a SAR operation. However, the boy was not located during the initial search.

According to the State Fire and Rescue Department, the operation resumed at 7.30am on Sunday (Dec 28), covering an area with a radius of 3 to 5km from the incident site.

The operation involved 11 boats and personnel, including five firefighters, 16 police officers, seven Civil Defence Force members, three officers from the Sarawak Forestry Corporation, one officer from the Daro District Office, one officer from the Sarawak Rivers Board, six members of the Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit and 28 local villagers.
