Perlis PAS Youth chief claims he was invited to sign SD against ex-Perlis MB

PETALING JAYA: Perlis PAS Youth Chief Haziq Asyraf Dun claims that he was among the state assemblymen invited to sign a statutory declaration (SD) withdrawing support for former Perlis Mentri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli.

In a Facebook post on Sunday (Dec 28), Haziq Asyraf claimed that he and several other assemblymen were approached by an individual claiming to be a “broker”.

“As an assemblyman chosen by the party, my principle is to consult the PAS Central Committee and state chapter leadership before taking any actions.

“I did not participate (in the signing of the SD) as the invitation was not made officially,” he wrote.

Haziq Asyraf also denounced the actions of the three PAS assemblymen who signed the SD without the party's knowledge and approval, calling it a clear act of betrayal that should not be further debated.

“On the night the PAS Central Committee decided to terminate their memberships, I became emotional as I recalled our joint struggles.

“However, party discipline cannot be overshadowed by emotion. Betrayal remains betrayal, and this should serve as a lesson for all PAS members, not only in Perlis but nationwide,” he added.

On Wednesday (Dec 24), PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang announced that Chuping assemblyman Saad Seman, Bintong assemblyman Fakhrul Anwar Ismail and Guar Sanji assemblyman Mohd Ridzuan Hashim had their memberships terminated for failing to comply with party directives as elected representatives.

This comes after the trio were alleged to have met the Raja of Perlis to withdraw their support for former Mentri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli, who later resigned on Thursday (Dec 25), citing health reasons.

On Sunday (Dec 28), Kuala Perlis assemblyman and state Bersatu chief Abu Bakar Hamzah was sworn in as the new Mentri Besar of Perlis at Istana Arau.
