21 houses in Simpang Pulai hit by flash floods

IPOH: Twenty-one houses in Lorong Pulai Raya 4, Simpang Pulai, were hit by flash floods after two and a half hours of relentless heavy rain on Thursday (Dec 25) night.

In a statement on Friday (Dec 26), the Civil Defence Force (APM) Kinta district operations control centre said they received a call at 9.31pm from an operations officer to monitor the area.

The team arrived at the Simpang Pulai flood site for monitoring at 10.28pm, accompanied by four personnel from the Simpang Pulai police station.

"The road was submerged and impassable. The cause of the flooding was a blocked drainage system due to a new housing project," the statement read.

The water level in the area receded to 0.22m at 1.09am Friday after the rain stopped.

No temporary relief centres have been opened, as the blocked drains have been cleared and the floodwaters have fully receded.

Simpang Pulai assemblyman Wong Chai Yi and officials from the Ipoh City Council also visited the affected area. – Bernama
