Police nab two in JB, drugs worth over RM10,000 seized


JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested two individuals and seized drugs worth more than RM10,800 at a hotel in Taman Perling here.

Johor Baru North acting OCPD Supt Azrol Anuar Nor said a 55-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman were arrested at about 8.30pm on Tuesday (Dec 23).

“We also seized suspected heroin weighing 1.35kg, estimated to be valued at RM10,827.28.

“These drugs could potentially feed the addiction of 6,768 users,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Dec 24).

Checks revealed that both suspects have prior records for drug-related offences.

“They both tested positive for morphine and have been remanded for seven days until Dec 30,” he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment and, if not sentenced to death, a minimum of 15 strokes of the cane upon conviction.

The suspects are also being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act, which carries a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to two years as well as mandatory supervision for between two and three years upon conviction.
