Man arrested, drugs worth RM2.4mil seized in Alor Setar


ALOR SETAR: Police arrested a man and seized 75kg of methamphetamine worth RM2.4mil at the Hutan Kampung toll plaza here early on Monday morning (Dec 22).

Kedah police chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah said the suspect, 48, was arrested at about 5 am and the police found four gunny sacks filled with 75 packs of methamphetamine in the four-wheel drive vehicle he was driving, along with an automatic pistol and 12 live bullets.

"During his arrest, the suspect acted aggressively and refused to come out of his vehicle, leading a police personnel to break the vehicle’s window,” he told reporters here today, adding that the suspect was a transporter who was offered RM15,000 to ferry to drugs from Perlis to Butterworth, Penang and to hand them over to another man there.

The police are tracking down three more individuals related to the case, which is being investigated under Section 39B and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act as well as Section 8 and 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960, he said, while the suspect has been remanded for seven days till Dec 28.

A luxury car, a motorcycle and RM500 in cash were also seized, he added.

In a separate development, Adzli shared that a man, 23, and his father-in-law, 46, were arrested at 2am, Dec 20 for a snatch theft that occurred the day before after the victim, an international student at a university, reported the incident at 11pm on the day of the theft.

The man, who has three criminal records relating to drug offences, is alleged to have committed the snatch theft, while the father-in-law, who has 12 prior records mostly relating to cable theft, disposed of unwanted items from thefts by throwing them into Sungai Kedah.

Both suspects tested positive for methamphetamine, he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 392 of the Penal Code. - Bernama
