Stop spas from getting too steamy: Titiwangsa MP urges more monitoring by KL authorities

KUALA LUMPUR: Authorities must continue to ensure that there are no immoral activities carried out in spas operating around the city, says Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.

The Titiwangsa MP said monitoring must occur so that no spa operator dares to act excessively beyond the actual purpose of the business.

“We are just the representatives of the people; we cannot be the police. We must monitor the issues for which action has been taken so that they do not happen again.

"Also, the Chow Kit area actually falls under three constituencies: Titiwangsa, Bukit Bintang and Batu, so it is just not under Titiwangsa,” he said after opening the Citrawarna Kampong Bharu 125th-year near the Saloma Link here on Sunday (Dec 21).

On Nov 28, a total of 201 men were detained during a joint enforcement operation at a wellness centre along Jalan Raja Laut after authorities suspected the premises was being used for illicit activities.

The men, aged between 19 and 60, were picked up at around 8pm on Friday (Nov 28) in a surprise raid involving Kuala Lumpur police, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi).

Of those detained, 17 were identified as civil servants, including a surgeon, a deputy public prosecutor, an administrative and diplomatic officer (PTD), a teacher and several enforcement officers.

However, a total of 171 local men who were arrested were released on bail on November 29 after their remand applications were rejected.
